This page explains what data whiskytorbati.it collects when you visit it, why, where it is stored and for how long. The site shows no advertising, does not profile visitors and does not sell or share data with anyone.

Visitor statistics
To understand which articles are read we use three tools, all installed on the site’s own server: the data does not go through external services and is not shared with third parties. None of the three uses cookies.
- Matomo records the pages visited, the referring site or search engine, device type, operating system, browser, browser language, screen resolution, time on site and clicks on links. The IP address is stored with its last two blocks set to zero (for example 93.196.0.0), so it does not identify the individual and only allows an estimate of country and city.
- Independent Analytics records the pages visited, the referrer, country, city and device type. It does not store the IP address: it tells visits apart with a pseudonymous code produced by a hash function.
- Reading measurement, a script of our own: for each page opened it records the actual reading time, how far the page is scrolled, how many internal and external links are clicked and the domain of the external links, together with the device type and the page language. It does not store the IP address and uses no code that links different pages together.
The legal basis is our legitimate interest in knowing how the site is used in order to improve its content (Article 6(1)(f) of Regulation (EU) 2016/679, GDPR). This data is kept for 24 months.
Site search and poll
When you use the site search, the search terms, the number of results, the date and a technical session code are recorded, without the IP address. They help us see which topics are missing from the site and are kept for 24 months.
If you vote in the poll on the Islay distilleries, your vote is added anonymously to the total and your browser stores a technical cookie that prevents double voting. Details are in the Cookie Policy.
Google fonts
The pages use typefaces from Google Fonts, provided by Google Ireland Limited. To download them, your browser connects to Google’s servers, which receive your IP address and technical information about your browser; loading the fonts sets no cookies. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in displaying the site correctly. Google may process this data outside the European Union and participates in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. Server logs
Like any web server, the site’s server records the IP address, date, requested page and browser for each request. These logs are used for security and troubleshooting, are archived every month and deleted the following month.
If you write to us
If you contact us by email or through our social profiles, we use your address and the content of your message only to reply, and keep them for as long as the conversation requires.
Where the data is
The site and all the data described above are on a server in Helsinki, Finland, in the Hetzner Online GmbH data centre, and therefore within the European Union. The only exception is the data your browser sends to Google to download the fonts.
Links to other sites
Articles contain links to distillery websites, shops and social networks. If you follow them, those sites process your data under their own policies, over which we have no control.
Your rights
You can ask at any time to access your data, to correct or erase it, to restrict or object to its processing and to receive it in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format (Articles 15-22 GDPR), by writing to the email address above. Since the statistics contain no full IP addresses, in most cases it is not possible to trace the data of a single person. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Italian supervisory authority, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali, or with the authority of the country where you live.
Changes
If we change the tools used on the site, we will update this page and the date at the top.
