Ardbeg has unveiled Dolce, its limited edition for Ardbeg Day 2026. The whisky will be available from 30 May and marks the first time the distillery has used Marsala casks as a finishing wood, aiming for a sweeter, more Mediterranean profile than previous years’ releases.
Release details
Ardbeg Dolce comes in at 47.8% and will retail in the UK at £85. In Europe, prices are likely to land around €95–105 through official channels. Ardbeg Committee members will be able to order from 26 May, a week before the general release on Ardbeg Day, 30 May — the closing day of Feis Ile 2026.
Maturation and casks
The core of the release is a finish in Marsala Dolce casks, a Sicilian controlled-designation wine produced in the province of Trapani. Ardbeg combined these woods with ex-bourbon casks. On the nose, ripe oranges, apricots and raisins come through, with a hint of marmalade. The palate brings dark chocolate, toasted nuts, lemon zest and, underneath, the peat oils that hold the thread back to the distillery’s classic profile. The finish is softer than usual: restrained smoke and a touch of salted nuts.
Context
The launch coincides with the 25th anniversary of the Ardbeg Committee. The distillery’s stated theme is “La Dolce Vita”, with an explicit nod to Fellini and the idea of a meeting between the island cultures of Islay and Sicily. It is a more narrative positioning than usual for Ardbeg Day, which in recent years leaned toward northern-European wine or ex-whisky casks.
For a sense of where Dolce sits within the current range, the Ardbeg 10 vs Laphroaig 10 vs Lagavulin 16 vs Caol Ila 12 comparison offers useful context on the distillery’s house style before the finishing layers come in.
